John 1:5 NIV
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
How did God shine light into the darkness?
John 1:4 NIV
In him (Jesus) was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
Jesus is the life that brightens up the darkness.
1 Peter 1:3 NIV
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
Biblical hope = confident expectation that God will do what He promised us He would do.
Living hope = hope has a name, and his name is Jesus.
1 Peter 1:4-5 NIV
...and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
Hebrews 12:1b NIV
…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
