Sermon Notes

Gold - Pastor Brett Cadwell

Isaiah 60:1-3 NLT

“Arise, Jerusalem! Let your light shine for all to see.     For the glory of the Lord rises to shine on you. Darkness as black as night covers all the nations of the earth,     but the glory of the Lord rises and appears over you. All nations will come to your light;     mighty kings will come to see your radiance.

Isaiah 60:4-6 NLT

Look and see, for everyone is coming home!     Your sons are coming from distant lands;     your little daughters will be carried home.

Your eyes will shine,     and your heart will thrill with joy, for merchants from around the world will come to you.     They will bring you the wealth of many lands. Vast caravans of camels will converge on you,     the camels of Midian and Ephah. The people of Sheba will bring gold and frankincense     and will come worshiping the Lord.

Frankincense - Pastor Matt Nickoson

Psalm 141:1-2 NLT

"O Lord, I am calling to you. Please hurry!     Listen when I cry to you for help! Accept my prayer as incense offered to you,     and my upraised hands as an evening offering."

Hebrews 5:7-9 NLT

"While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God. Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him."

Hebrews 4:14-16 NLT

"So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most."

Myrrh - Pastor Darrin Simpson

Psalm 45:8a NIV

"All your robes are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia;"

2 Corinthians 2:15 NIV

"For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing."

Mark 15:23 NIV

"Then they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it."

John 19:38-40 NIV

"Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs."
