Jesus is a Good Shepherd

Pastor Shawn Green opens our new series in Psalm 23 by exploring what it means to follow the Good Shepherd. Teaching from verse 1, he reminds us that when we try to lead ourselves, we end up exhausted. Like sheep, we are not made to be self-sufficient—but to be led, protected, and refreshed by Jesus, the Good Shepherd (John 10:11).

Sermon Notes

“I can’t do this anymore.”

You were never meant to lead yourself.

Sheep are:

  • Easily distracted
  • Prone to wander
  • Vulnerable to danger

Psalm 23 NIV

“The Lord…”

“The Lord is my shepherd…”

Psalm 23:1 NIV

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.”

John 10:11 NIV

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

Who or what are you following?

Jesus invites you to stop performing, stop pretending, and start following Him.

John 10:14 NIV

“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me”

“Most of Scripture speaks to us; the Psalms speak for us.” -Athanasius

Psalm 23:1 NIV

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.”

Isaiah 53:6 NIV

We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
