Taking the Next Step to Serve
February 1, 2024
Director of Experience, Danielle Smalley, sat down with Eniola, a Campus Experience Volunteer, to learn more about what led her to begin serving.
Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
A: I’m Eniola, born and raised in Nigeria. I moved to the United States with my family a few years ago. I am a Business Analyst and a licensed life insurance agent. I enjoy cooking, watching movies and hanging out with friends and family.
Q: What brought you to Kingsway?
A: This might sound funny or vague, but I saw the church building in the place of prayer. I knew there was a need to draw closer to God and be more active in a church community and I wasn’t getting that where I was. I decided to pray about it and the Holy Spirit directed me to Kingsway. I lived about 3 minutes away from the church, so I was very familiar with the building.
Q: How long have you been attending Kingsway?
A: About 6 Months now. Since July of 2023.
Q: What made you decide to start serving?
A: I knew I had to be fully involved as a member. So, I joined in the activities that helped me get familiar and finally settled in the community. I attended Starting Point in September and got baptized the same month. Then I went through Rooted. Towards the end of Rooted, I received an email from Andy asking if I was willing to serve and it was just perfect timing because I was also thinking of ways to better strengthen my walk and just stay active as a member of the community.
Q: Why did you choose to serve on the Campus Experience team?
A: I’ve always loved service that had to do with ushering or greeting When I got that email from Andy, I decided to pray about it before deciding where to serve. I received confirmation about it through that time in prayer.
Q: Why do you think it’s important to serve at church?
A: The bible says in Romans 8:16 NIV “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children”. As a child of God, I see the church as my Father’s house. Serving at church just feels like I’m helping around my parent’s house. It gives a sense of purpose and responsibility in our spiritual walk as it helps us to stay active members of the Christian community.
Q: What would you tell someone who hasn’t yet taken the step to serve?
A: It might feel like a huge responsibility but like I said it helps you find purpose and stay active in your faith walk. I encourage you to take the bold step and start serving, it’s a wonderful experience.
Q: How do you know what God is challenging you to do next?
A: I’m still figuring that out, but I intend to stay with God, study the word more, pray more, and just be conscious and sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Like Pastor Matt would say “God is always speaking”; I intend to do more listening.
