In The Beginning... God.

Sermon Notes

Hebrews 11:1-2 NIV

"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for."

Hebrews 11:3 NIV

"By faith, we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible."

Genesis 1:1 NIV

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth."

"According to the Scriptures, creation is a gift from a loving Creator God. From the bodies we inhabit, the air we breathe, the sun we bask in, the food we eat, the flowers we pick, the water we drink, the ground we walk upon, and the pets we love, to the pleasures we enjoy and destinations we visit on vacation, life is filled with good gifts for us to steward and enjoy." – Doctrine, Mark Driscoll and Gary Breshears

First: The Bible is true in every way.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

Both the Old and New Testaments are the inspired truth, infallible and authoritative Word of God sufficient for our knowledge of salvation and living. All our beliefs come from the Bible, which reveals God’s truth to us as His love letter to man.

Second: Christianity and Science are not in conflict.

Third: There is a critically important conflict between Christianity and scientific naturalism.

Fourth: The Bible was not written with the intention of being a modern scientific textbook.

Fifth: A person’s view of when God created is not the test for Salvation.

"The creation week was a time of unique supernatural activity, and we can’t expect to understand everything about it. In fact, we can’t expect to understand most of it!" - Jake Hebert, Ph.D.Seeing Distant Light in a Young Universe

Creation Testifies to God’s Character and Expectations:

Romans 1:18-20 NIV

"The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness since what may be known about God is plain to them because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse."

Jesus Fully Reveals the Creator:

Colossians 1:15-20 NIV

"The Son (Jesus Christ) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him, all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He (Jesus) is before all things, and in him, all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross."

One Day All of Creation Will Bow in Reverence and Sing in Worship to Our Creator!

Revelation 5:12-14 NIV

"In a loud voice, they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: 'To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!' The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped."
