Chosen To Wait

In this sermon, Andy Grimes discusses what to do when God asks us to wait. Looking at the intersection of Luke and Acts, he reminds believers that we’re never alone in our waiting, that God is always at work even when we can’t see it, and that faithfulness means doing the next right thing, a “long obedience in the same direction.”

Sermon Notes

What do I do when God has asked me to wait?

Luke 24:45-49 NIV

Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

Acts 1:9-11 NIV

They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

1. Remember that you are not alone.

2. Trust that God is working.

3. Do the next right thing.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Don't waste your waiting!
