Handicapable Hands (A yearly weekend camp at Bradford Woods for persons with special needs.Contact Ed Boda at 745.6103 or .)
Personal Counselors: Provide assistance to campers. A counselor may work one-on-one with a camper and help by assisting with their meals, fastening buttons, or assisting with their personal hygiene needs which may include dressing or pushing a wheelchair. The counselors stay in the cabins with the campers and often form long term bonds with the campers.
Activity Volunteers: Attend the Camp on Saturday and assist with the various activities throughout the day. Some of these activities include: horseback riding, wall climbing, fishing, boating, arts & crafts, archery, etc.
Security Volunteers: Work the weekend providing security in the evening hours as well as providing communications assistance during the daylight hours between cabin leaders and staff.
Planning/Fundraising:There is also a need for volunteers to help prepare for camp each year. This is a monthly commitment to meet on the board to get applications prepared and mailed to potential campers and volunteers. It also involves planning the activities that will be going on at the camp for the coming year. Another opportunity is fundraising. Every year, between $20,000 and $25,000 is needed to run Handicapable Camp. This is an ongoing process that anyone with a gift for fundraising can assist with.
