Living in awe of God and striving to please Him

Worship, simply stated, is giving God the glory He alone deserves.

Louie Giglio states it this way, “Worship is our response to what we value most.” Everybody worships something and a sure sign of what we value most is seen in how we spend our time, energy, money, and loyalty. As followers of Christ we seek to lead a lifestyle of worship that points people toward a relationship with Christ. Worship is a part of our everyday lives, not just something that happens in an auditorium on a weekend.

Worship can happen individually, but we also come together as a group of believers often referred to as “corporate” worship. The only difference between personal worship and corporate worship is that there are more people in the room and we’re praising God together. Involvement in weekly worship opportunities is critical to our spiritual journey. Not only does it give us an opportunity to respond to God for who He is and what He has done for us, it enables us to connect with other people who are on the same journey.

While attendance at worship services is a good “first step” toward a lifestyle of worship, it is just that – a step. It does nothing for us to go to church and remain unchanged. Christ longs to see us transformed, to become more like him. 

And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”  Romans 12:1-2 (NLT)
